Technology holding company You & Mr Jones changed its name to The Brandtech Group. The change was made to reflect the term that has fueled the group’s global growth since its launch in 2015 and the comprehensive branding technology category it has helped bring to the world of marketing.
“When I started the group six years ago, there were two of us, and ‘You and Mr. Jones’ sounded like a great name for a small startup,” founder and CEO David Jones He said in a statement. “We are now the world’s number one enterprise-class marketing technology group, and the largest global digital partner for some of the world’s largest brands. We have over half a billion in revenue, have over 5,000 employees, 18 senior partners, and the brand has gone from being an idea into a huge category, so I felt it was time to express that by changing the name of the company.”
When Jones founded the company, he used the term “brandtech” to describe the ways technology can connect brands to consumers beyond traditional advertising, and how it can help companies market more efficiently than what he sees as traditional advertising. In the following six years, the term came to include many companies that support technology and their marketing efforts.
The company was created to help marketing managers navigate a world of marketing that has continued to be disruptive, creating new channels and formats that require additional content and deal with more data. Jones set out to solve this problem by acquiring companies in fast-growing, turbulent sectors to help global brands better, faster, and cheaper.
Rapid growth through technology investment
Since its launch, the group has acquired a variety of companies, including 55 The Data Company, inbound marketing agency Oliver, digital agency Gravity Road, and filmmaker community Mofilm. It is also an investor in several other technology projects, including Niantic, Zappar, and Pinterest.
You and Mr. Jones have grown exponentially over the years, including obtaining a $200 million financing round, bringing the company to $1.3 billion in 2019. The company’s 2021 revenue was over $500 million, and organic revenue growth was Q3 2021 YTD over 50%, following an organic net revenue growth rate of 27.1% for 2020.
To celebrate its name change, Brandtech Group mints the You & Mr Jones logo into the NFT and then hash it into multiple tokens that will be distributed to Brandtech Group employees. The idea is that the tokens will come with voting rights to the charitable donations totaling $100,000 that the group will make.
“When I said we were changing the name, someone asked me if that meant I was leaving the company,” Jones said. “Of course not. I couldn’t be more excited about the future and the role we can play in helping drive the growth of our clients like Web3 and the metaverse revolutionizing marketing.”
All entities previously bearing the You & Mr Jones name are also being renamed, while the individual group companies will retain their existing business names.
