St. Louis – (work wire)–St. Lewis’ longest-running media agency kicked off an important new era at the end of January. DICOM Marketing Services, the media buying agency for three decades, was acquired for an undisclosed amount by True Independent Holdings, one of North America’s fastest growing media groups. Following the successful closing of the acquisition on January 31, 2022, DICOM will become part of True Media, the primary media buying and planning agency within the True Holdings group.

Effective February 1, 2022, all DICOM employees will join True Media at the agency’s St. Louis office located in the Westport area. The deal requires no layoffs and brings True Media to more than 175 strategists, planners, analysts, and media buyers across six offices, including Columbia, MO; Kansas City, Missouri; St. Louis, Missouri; Minneapolis, MN; Toronto, Ontario; and Calgary, AP. DICOM founders Jim Steward and Dave Travers will join the new, joint True leadership team.

DICOM has become the third agency to be acquired by True Independent Holdings as part of a national strategy to grow a group of specialist agencies that provide integrated media strategy, program services, analytics and procurement to a growing list of industry-leading clients in finance, healthcare, tourism, agriculture, retail and CPG. In addition to True Media, the group also includes digital programming agency Coegi and data analytics agency RADaR.

The move follows the appointment of Preston Waller as the new president of True Media in October 2020. Waller’s first year saw organic growth for large-scale clients and a focus on developing top talent. In late 2021, the appointments included Nisha Chandrasekar, who joined True Media as the company’s first director of media, and the senior leadership team added Brian Kaiser as director of revitalization strategy and Mike O’Haven as assistant media director.
