While observing what digital marketing can do for businesses, Prakash saw a business opportunity in a niche sector that India was about to wake up from. “My family didn’t want me to start a new business because they wanted to join my parents. But I opposed them to launch Drive Digital,” he adds.

More than a decade later, the company has made strides by working with over 600 active brands, helping them with Google Ads, Facebook marketing, and even creating content to help promote the brand in different languages ​​including Spanish and French.

“I hardly knew anything about digital marketing or SEO. When I started, the internet was just a way to make friends on social media or play games. Also, I didn’t have a technical degree that could help me in this area, so I learned a lot on the go. And through trial and error,” he explains.

Talking about the difficulties he faced while launching the company, Prakash says he initially found it difficult to convince clients of his team because he had no formal education in the field. He adds, “I have a master’s degree in mathematics. Therefore, clients have been reluctant to work with us. We are still challenged but now we have our work to speak for itself.”

Over the years, the team has been able to address these challenges with their dedication to delivering and helping clients increase the reach of their audience. He adds, “We strive to provide simple solutions to complex problems by leveraging technology. Furthermore, we analyze our clients’ assets and businesses before formulating an appropriate digital marketing strategy to ensure the best results.”

One of the cornerstones of Drive Digital’s success story is its outreach. “I settled on the name ‘Drive Digital’ for my company and it was only available with the .in extension. However, over the years, the decision has worked well for me in more ways than one. For starters, the .in domain has helped solidify our identity as an India-based digital marketing company. It’s an instant reminder to people and even our international customers,” he says.

Prakash also says that the .in domain name has boosted the presence of the digital search engine optimization engine making it easier for the company to reach international clients.

The National Internet Exchange of India (NIXI) has helped hundreds of companies across sectors and sizes differentiate themselves as a brand with their .in or .Bharat – India’s country code top-level domain (ccTLD) domain. It is among the few online exchanges in the world that offer ccTLDs in multiple languages.

Prakash believes that the .in extension gives small businesses and brands the advantage of determining their niche based on their geographic location. “Aside from helping a business establish itself as an Indian entity, it also provides the advantage of good traffic, quality and audience reach.”

Why the future of marketing is digital

The COVID-19 pandemic has been a game changer in the digital marketing industry. From pioneering brands exploring online markets to driving existing e-commerce brands to transform almost overnight, the crisis has spurred digital marketing as an effective communication tool.

Talking about his experience running business during the pandemic, Prakash says COVID-19 has surprised everyone and has accelerated digital transformations across industries. “Earlier, small brands didn’t feel the need to launch e-commerce stores and there were many doctors who stayed away from online consultations. However, the pandemic changed all that. The crisis made them realize the importance of a digital presence in getting a trusted client.”

He also said that he saw many companies closing because they did not anticipate an increase in digital adoption and were not flexible enough to make a digital transformation overnight.

“We had a hair transplant surgeon as one of our clients. When COVID-19 hit, the surgeon and the hospital had some tough times as the number of patients dropped dramatically. Then we suggested that the hospital maintain a digital presence. We launched some of their drug websites online. They were well-thought-out products launched by the hospital in partnership with Within 24 hours of launch, we were able to get around 3,000 orders,” says Prakash. He says his team has created buzz around the product by engaging articles and posting interactive videos about the product and its benefits.

If there’s one lesson businesses have learned from the pandemic, it’s that brands can’t afford to ignore digital adoption any longer. “They need an online presence as well as an offline presence to survive changes in consumer behavior. Most people like to know a little about a brand before trying it and the internet is often the first source of information.”
